Is Your Nintendo Wii Giving You Grief With Wii Remote Syncing Errors?

Posted under Nintendo Wii, Wii Accessories by admin on Thursday 30 April 2009 at 7:45 PM

The Nintendo Wii is arguably the best game console on the market today, giving a spectacular range of games and exercises. No matter how young or old you are, the Nintendo Wii console has some thing for every one.

The downside is that the system, like all other things with embedded technology, means that things are going to go wrong for many at some point. Lets face it – With hundreds of millions of consoles out their some Wii gamers are going to have some sort of error or problem.

Unlike most other console games like the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii is a much more sophisticated system, with online access and remote sensors. For the non technical, the setting up of the wireless system (wi-fi) can be a large problem, particularly the older group of users who still have issues coming to grips with the latest technology.

Stilted controls and awkward action give Cocoto Platform Jumper a musty, old-school smell.

Dawn of Discovery DS Hands-On Preview

Posted under DS Game Previews, DS Game Releases by admin on Thursday 30 April 2009 at 7:37 AM

We set sail in search of new land in Ubisoft’s upcoming strategy game.

Strategic city-building games have always had a home on the PC, but the Nintendo DS and Wii and their touch screen and pointer capabilities make managing a budding civilization just as easy. Ubisoft is bringing Dawn of Discovery–originally called Anno 1404–to both systems. It’s an easy-to-play strategy game that guides you through the process of exploring and cultivating new lands. We played through the first few chapters of the game to get a feel for the controls, and we liked what we saw. It’s virtually stress-free, which might be considered less challenging to some players, but there’s always a more efficient way of building an empire than just slapping down some huts and dairy farms and hoping that everything takes off.

Your building tools are readily accessible via the touch screen.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor DS Hands-On Preview

Posted under DS Game Previews, DS Game Releases, DS Game Videos by admin on Thursday 30 April 2009 at 7:30 AM

Demons are on the loose, and it’s up to us and our DS to stop them.

The Shin Megami Tensei series and its spin-offs are not always linked, but they do have one thing in common: demons. Devil Survivor is the first of the series to come to the Nintendo DS, and it appears to be yet another engaging and captivating role-playing game by Atlus. Set in the bustling city of Tokyo, Devil Survivor combines several elements from the role-playing and text-based adventure genre to create a strategy RPG adventure hybrid. This works out well, in case you’re wondering, and it’s easy to get into because you need to know only the very basics of SRPGs to jump right in.

Ant Nation DS Hands-On Preview

Posted under DS Game Previews, DS Game Releases by admin on Thursday 30 April 2009 at 7:17 AM

This game puts the “idea” in Vespoidea. We check out this bug-based real-time strategy game from Konami.

Konami’s fixation with bug torture isn’t limited to the Wii. After checking out the upcoming WiiWare game Ant Nation, we got some time in with the DS version of the game, which is quite a bit different from its console cousin. The premise revolves around the children’s pastime of torturing ants, but it puts a purpose behind it. Whereas the WiiWare game is a mellow, sandbox-like experience, the DS game is more along the lines of a real-time strategy game.

Where bugs and real-time strategy combine: It’s Ant Nation for the DS.

MySims Racing DS Hands-On Preview

Posted under DS Game Previews, DS Game Releases by admin on Thursday 30 April 2009 at 7:12 AM

We race through town while running errands and taking a spin around the track in this portable kart racer.

MySims is gaining momentum with its infectious charm and easy-to-play game mechanics. Next in line is a racing spin-off, which ventures into the kart-racer category but maintains the light-hearted interaction between characters and of course, customization. Like its Wii counterpart, you can create your own MySim and then spruce up your car so that you can cruise around town in style. The Nintendo DS version is different in that you aren’t spending most of your time on the racetrack completing challenges. Instead, you’re zipping around town and helping people get to where they need to go.

Customize your very own vehicle and then hit the streets!

Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times Updated DS Hands-On Preview

Posted under DS Game Previews, DS Game Releases by admin on Tuesday 28 April 2009 at 6:55 PM

We don the wizard hat and wave the magical wand as we explore the curious world of Magician’s Quest.

The magical open-ended game originally called Little Magicians in Japan is now coming to North America. Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times feels very much like Animal Crossing, in which you take up residence in a colorful and wacky town, go fishing, catch bugs, and water plants. The difference here is that you can also learn to cast spells. We didn’t run into the equivalent of Tom Nook in our playtime at Konami’s Gamer Night event last week, but we did like the cutesy exterior and the no-goals approach in this whimsical game.

Posted under DS Game Previews, DS Game Releases by admin on Tuesday 28 April 2009 at 6:47 PM

Yu-Gi-Oh! gets its annual world championship update, and we check out the new role-playing game.

As long as the card game is still popular, Konami will continue to release Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship games each year so that players from all over the world can duel against one another, thanks to the Wi-Fi capabilities of the Nintendo DS. We were able to get a brief look at the game during Konami’s press event last week in San Francisco. The 2009 version boasts an all-new role-playing game based on the animated 5D’s series, which launched on the 4Kids network last September. Characters from the new series will make an appearance in the game, where you play as a young man who has lost his memories.

Posted under DS Game Previews, DS Game Releases by admin on Tuesday 28 April 2009 at 6:38 PM

After many rounds of lengthy tutorials, we explore this unique and fascinating role-playing game.

The role-playing games on the Nintendo DS just keep on coming, and next on the horizon is Knights in the Nightmare, from Sting, the maker of Yggdra Union. This game is in a class of its own, and if you thought Yggdra was confusing and a bit of a mess onscreen, you should be warned that Knights in the Nightmare looks like a disaster–at least until you’ve spent enough time poring over the never-ending tutorials so that you have a clue about how to proceed.

In between all the madness, there’s a captivating story.
