SAN FRANCISCO–Nintendo continued to flesh out its line of downloadable-game offerings with a handful of initiatives revealed today during company president Satoru Iwata’s keynote address.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS

GameSpot got one more look at Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto experience for the DS.

Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is quite possibly the most shocking entry in the famed series to date. But, if you know GTA, it isn’t for the reasons you might think. While the game offers the immersive experience you’d expect from a GTA game thanks to a meaty story, colorful cast of characters, and the Liberty City setting, the most shocking thing about the game is the fact that it’s shaped up as well as it has on the Nintendo DS. We got one last chance to take a tour of the town recently and were mightily impressed by how Rockstar Leeds has made use of the DS’s unique features.

Upcoming Releases for the Nintendo DS and Wii

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 and Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure coming soon to the Nintendo Wii and DS, respectively.

The Nintendo DS will receive a triple-AAA release on March 17, Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure, Electronic Arts’ puzzle-adventure hybrid for the DS. Like Level 5′s Professor Layton and the Curious Village, the game follows an inquisitive scholar who must solve all manner of puzzles during the course of an adventure. However, the EA Tiburon-developed game also incorporates platforming action as well as a dose of surreality in the form of an alternate puzzle world.

Nintendo Ships Out 100 Millionth DS Unit

Dual-screen portable hits milestone less than 4.5 years after launching; 83 games for handheld have gone platinum, with seven games topping 10 million.

Nintendo’s continued dominance of the game-industry landscape was further underlined yesterday. This morning, the Kyoto-based company announced that sometime last week, the 100 millionth unit of its DS portable was shipped out to retailers. Last year, the platform surpassed the 81 million-plus international sales of its predecessor, the Game Boy Advance.

Mario & Luigi RPG 3 for DS Still Selling Strong

Continuing its strong sales run, Mario & Luigi RPG 3!! for the DS sold 52,000 units, slightly more than the 45,000 units for Namco Bandai’s Wii newcomer One Piece Unlimited Cruise: Episode 2.
