Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again Nintendo DSiWare Hands-On

Posted under DSi Game Previews, DSi Game Releases by admin on Wednesday 10 June 2009 at 1:58 PM

We play through the first of four worlds in this upcoming DSiWare game.

The two iconic and most recognizable video game characters have teamed up once again in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! With the game available on  DSiWare, you’ll be able guide the adorable, tiny wind-up Marios to safety. The game was announced during the Nintendo press conference, and we had an opportunity to check it out on the show floor of the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

It looks like there will be more than 30 levels in the game, with additional puzzle packs that will be available weekly after launch. It’s unknown at this time how long the service will go on for, but we were told by a Nintendo rep that it will last at least six months. There are four worlds, and each will have eight levels, a bonus stage to unlock, as well as a boss level.

Women’s Murder Club: Games of Passion Nintendo DS & DSiHands-On

We get our mystery on with this upcoming DS and DSi title based on the popular crime books.

New York Times bestselling author James Patterson has his finger in a lot of pies. With 52 novels under his belt, he has dedicated a lot of time to various adaptations for film, TV, and video games. The upcoming Women’s Murder Club: Crimes of Passion, announced for the DS and DSi at Nintendo’s Tuesday press conference, is based on Patterson’s highly successful series of books about four women who dedicate their time to solving crimes. We tried our hand at being a detective at THQ’s booth during E3 2009.

Who’s Making This Game:

Women’s Murder Club: Crimes of Passion was developed by Seattle-based Griptonite Games and is being published by THQ. The game’s producer, Adam Affruniti, told us Patterson was involved in all aspects of the game’s eight-month development, including the decision to exclude the fourth member of the Women’s Murder Club from the game’s story. The game is targeted at women between 18 and 49 years, but THQ is not hiding the fact that they think everyone who is a fan of Patterson’s work will play this.

James Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club Nintendo DS & DSi Impressions

Posted under DS Game Previews, DS Game Releases, DSi Game Previews, DSi Game Releases by admin on Tuesday 9 June 2009 at 1:44 PM

Multi-million-selling author James Patterson is making his way to the DS in a new game from THQ.

Nintendo’s DSi has just celebrated selling one million units in Europe, but that’s still a small number compared to the 150 million books that James Patterson has sold worldwide. The thriller author is one of the most popular writers in the world, and his Women’s Murder Club series is now coming to the DS and DSi thanks to publisher THQ.

The game will be called James Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club, and from the look of the video shown at Nintendo’s E3 press conference, it looks to be in the vein of Hotel Dusk and Professor Leyton. You play the game by holding the DS on its side, and it has a graphic-novel visual style.

You will take control of different women from the series, including Lindsay Boxer and Cindy Thomas, as they attempt to catch the killer. They have to solve puzzles, which seem to include Tetris-style block games.

The game is available for 700 Wii points ($7). Nobunaga’s Ambition, originally released for the SNES in 1991, has been added to the Wii’s Virtual Console for 800 Wii points, or $8.

WiiWare & Virtual Console Releases

Posted under DSi Game Releases, Wii Game Releases by admin on Monday 13 April 2009 at 4:10 PM

WiiWare is getting Party Fun Pirate, a game that in all honestly looks kinda lame. I’m not trying to be a Negative Nancy or anything, but this game just doesn’t sound fun. Players take turns putting sword into a barrel, which is holding your captain, until someone gets it in the wrong hole and El Capitan goes flying, I’m assuming this is from him being stabbed. You can also substitute your Mii’s for your captain which, according to Nintendo, provides some real laughs. Party Fun Pirate can be played by up to 4 players and is available now for 500 points.

Virtual Console is being thrust into dangerous territory with, “Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure”. Ok, that may be an overly dramatic introduction but, after Pirate Fun, I thought it was necessary. I was always a fan of the Pitfall series. It reminded me of the Indiana Jones flicks. This was the one where Harry Jr. had to go and rescue is dad from Zakeula, the Lord of Evil. You cannot make this stuff up. The Sega Genesis title is a 1 player only game and will cost you 800 points.
