Dead Space: Extraction Nintendo Wii Impressions

We get another look at the upcoming Wii-exclusive sequel to Dead Space.

Touting its third-party collaborations, Nintendo used this morning’s E3 conference to talk more about three of its upcoming Wii titles: Sega’s The Conduit, Capcom’s Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, and EA’s Dead Space Extraction. Unfortunately, Nintendo said nothing new about the latter, save for airing a very short trailer.

The Conduit for Wii Multiplayer Hands-On

The Conduit is one of the Wii’s few first-person shooters, and we managed to score some time on its 12-player multiplayer mode.

After only a single round of playing The Conduit’s multiplayer mode, it’s clear that it’s been heavily influenced by the Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye. This is no bad thing, but in terms of look and feel, Voltage’s upcoming Wii first-person shooter feels very much like a spiritual successor to the Rare classic. Thankfully, the feature set is completely 2009, with 12-player online multiplayer, seven maps, unlockable player skins, and voice support using Nintendo’s WiiSpeak peripheral. In fact, it could be said that The Conduit is the most feature-packed online game for the Wii so far. We went hands-on with the game at Sega’s office in London, and had a chance to speak to developer High Voltage to find out more.

A 12-player online FPS for the Wii? Oh yes!

Dead Space Extraction Preview

Terror strikes the USG Ishimura, but this time on the Wii.

If there’s one thing that Dead Space proved, it’s that you don’t need to reinvent a genre to be successful. It was a game that took plenty of the best, tried-and-true elements of survival horror, mixed in a few novel features of its own, and topped it off with an intensely chilling atmosphere that stands as one of the best in recent memory. In fact, what might be an even bigger risk for the team at EA Redwood Shores is taking everything that made Dead Space great and applying it to the Wii hardware for the upcoming Dead Space Extraction. This prequel was first announced back in February, though we recently had our first look at the game in the form of a brief gameplay demo at a recent EA press event.

In my previous post I posted the video interview and gameplay. Be sure to check that out at Dead Space Extraction Gameplay.

Krzysztof Murzyn of NoWay Studio shares his thoughts on the upcoming first-person shooter for the Nintendo DS.

First-person shooters on the Nintendo DS are few and far between, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t developers taking the plunge to bring this genre to the dual-screen handheld.
