Nerf 2: N-Strike Elite Nintendo Wii Hands-On Impressions

We blast some sinister robots with suction-cup darts in EA’s upcoming Nerf rail shooter for the Wii.

Nerf blasters are an important part of every boy’s childhood, and with the Nerf N-Strike series of family-friendly shooters, you can get your foam dart on without the hassle of having to clean up after yourself. We recently got to try out the latest game in this lineup at the EA Studio Showcase event just outside of Comic-Con, where we junked robots and solved puzzles using the handy new red-reveal feature.

Who’s Making This Game:

Following the success of last year’s Nerf N-Strike on the Wii and DS, EA Hasbro has developed a direct sequel that picks up right where the first one left off. Five of the original characters will return, as will B.O.B., the evil robot seemingly defeated.

What the Game Looks Like:

Nerf 2 has a vibrant color palette not unlike the Nerf weapons themselves. Levels range from wide-open outdoor environments to restricted indoor spaces, and there’s an army of enemies to take on, including shield-toting robots and android flies. With the red reveal (a transparent red panel that you look through attached to the Nerf gun controller) flipped up, certain colors popped out at us, making boss weak points and hidden item caches visible. In one of the cooler visual effects, enemy darts actually stuck to the screen for a moment and temporarily obscured our view before falling off during battle.

Do you live with Duke Nukem Disease?

Posted under Videos

This isn’t directly related to Nintendo or anything, but I thought I would post this as it’s just too funny not to. Ever noticed the swaying motion of a gun in a first person shooter game? You know, the unnatural motion of how a gun sways to and fro while walking. If you’ve played any type of FPS then I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.

Duke Nukem was the first ever FPS game out there, so it’s a no-brainer that they would name this Duke Nukem Disease. You have to watch this video!

Red Steel 2 Nintendo Wii Hands-On

Ubisoft’s Red Steel sequel was playable at E3 09, and we wasted no time jumping on the game at the company’s booth.

Red Steel 2 is an interesting proposition. It’s the sequel to a game that was poorly received upon release, but the developers genuinely seem to have learned a lot from the experience. The sequel has a completely different story to the original, and, in fact, the only thing that the two games have in common is the gun/sword-based combat. We managed to play the game for the first time today at the LA Convention Center, as well as find out more about it with lead designer Roman Campos Oriola.

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes Nintendo Wii Impressions

We take an up-close look at this family-friendly action game based on the Star Wars TV cartoon series.

Red Steel 2 Nintendo Wii Demo Impressions

Ubisoft presented the first gameplay demonstration of this Wii MotionPlus-enhanced sequel.

At the company’s E3 2009 press conference today, Ubisoft’s Jason Vandenberg demonstrated Red Steel 2, offering a taste of how the game improves on its predecessor, with an emphasis on how the required Wii MotionPlus will benefit the experience.

The demo opens with our unnamed hero–a cross between a gunslinger and samurai–waking up in a desert to find a pack of vultures circling overhead. Unfortunately, that’s but the start of our hero’s problems, given that the sound of a revving motorcycle interrupts the moment and peels off across the sand. It quickly becomes apparent that our hero is along for the ride, as a rope tethering him to the cycle drags him across the harsh terrain…and we don’t use that word lightly. We’re talking being dragged across roads, through flames, and barely avoiding being crushed by an 18-wheeler. It was a visually arresting opening that helped set the stage for the action-packed sequences that followed.
