Dead Space Extraction Nintendo Wii Updated Impressions

We head deeper into the USG Ishimura in our latest hands-on look at EA’s Wii-exclusive sci-fi horror game.

The bad news only gets worse for the USG Ishimura in the upcoming Wii-exclusive Dead Space Extraction from EA’s Visceral Games development studio. This platform-exclusive survival horror game functions as both a prequel and side story to the acclaimed Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 original. We’ve seen the game a number of times so far (most recently, at GamesCom 2009), and yesterday, EA dropped by with an updated build of the game to show off a new level and give GameSpot an exclusive peek at the first boss in the game.

Nintendo DS C.O.R.E. Q&A with NoWay Studio

Krzysztof Murzyn of NoWay Studio shares his thoughts on the upcoming first-person shooter for the Nintendo DS.

First-person shooters on the Nintendo DS are few and far between, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t developers taking the plunge to bring this genre to the dual-screen handheld. NoWay Studio, a division of QubicGames that focuses on DS games, is set to launch its debut game on April 17. We had the opportunity to ask Krzysztof Murzyn of NoWay Studio to share some of his thoughts regarding the development of the DS exclusive.

GDC 2009: Duke Nukem Trilogy: Critical Mass DS Preview

Posted under DS Game Previews

Duke is back. For real! This time on the PSP and DS with Critical Mass.

Believe it or not, there will be at least two Duke Nukem games coming out this year, not counting the perennially delayed Duke Nukem Forever. Apogee Software–which is now a completely separate entity from 3D Realms–has PSP and Nintendo DS adventures lined up for the tough-as-granite game icon, and we managed to get some hands-on time with both today.

Duke Nukem Trilogy: Critical Mass is the first of three planned games for the DS and PSP, and though they may share the same name and some story details, the two are completely different beasts. Although we know only a little of the story so far, we do know that Duke somehow finds himself responsible for the destruction of the entire world (with a little help from aliens, of course). The misogynistic tough guy now has to set things right, travelling back and forth in time throughout the course of his three new game adventures in an effort to foil the evil aliens’ plans.

Virtual Console & WiiWare Monday, Castlevania Style!

This week Nintendo is giving us three titles to have fun with. Two of them are for WiiWare: Jungle Speed and Planet Pachinko. They are also giving us the classic Casltevania 3: Dracula’s Curse on the Virtual Console. Jungle Speed is a fast paced card game that can be played with 1-8 players. Players flip cards in turn until two cards match, when they do both players must try to grab the totem pole in the middle, to the loser goes the spoils: the other players cards and all those in the pot. The first person to get rid of all their cards will win the game. This game is based on a popular board game with the exact same premise. It definitely sounds fun, especially with a bunch of people in the room. However, it will cost 1000 points, which is a bit hefty.

Planet Pachinko is not the popular Japanese gambling game. I know, that would be kind of awesome. Instead, this title developed by Allied Kingdoms is a platform shooter game that can be played solo or with a friend in co-op. In the game you play, and stay with me here, a Robot family in search of their lost puppy. Now, that’s direct from Nintendo’s press release so, I wrote that right. Your character will have an array of weapons from lasers to rockets and even slime grenades. The title will cost 500 points.

Nintendo is also continuing the Castelvania saga on the Virtual Console. The final Castlevania release on the NES sets you in the past, 215 years before the first two titles, battling Dracula as Simon’s forefather Trevor Belmont. You’ll remember Dracula’s Curse for returning to the roots of the series, platforming. It was also not completely linear as at certain spots in the game you’d be offered a choice of paths to choose. This gave the game replayability that was definitely a welcomed addition. According to Wikipedia, the story for this game is being made into an animated feature, it would be nice to see Trevor on the full screen. The game was developed by NES for 1 player and is available for 500 points.
