Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games Nintendo Wii Updated Impressions

The plumber, hedgehog, and friends are getting ready for Vancouver 2010, and we checked out a few new events at GamesCom.

After the enormous success of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games–(Mario & Sonic win 5M Olympic medals) 5 million copies and counting–creating a sequel based on the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Winter Games seems like a no-brainer. So far, we’ve seen a number of fun events for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, including bobsleighing, speed skating, and downhill skiing, as well as numerous characters with which fans of Mario or Sonic games will be familiar. We recently got a chance to meet some more characters and events at GamesCom 2009 in Cologne, Germany.

New Sonic & The Black Knight Trailers Courtesy of IGN

Sonic & The Black Knight is coming out next week so, that means the trailers are forthcoming. I was not at all a fan of Sonic & The Secret Rings, but this one looks a bit more promising. It could be that it’s set in the time of King Arthur and that fantastical period has a soft spot from my childhood. I used to love the tales of the Roundtable adventures of Gawain, Arthur and company. I also used to love Sonic games so, on paper this is a match made in heaven. Of course, games in this day and age aren’t exactly known for living up to what they can represent on paper. Either way, the latest Sonic adventure is shaping up to be a sleeper hit for Nintendo in these beginning months of 2009 that have been mostly dedicated to the hardcore title. It is slightly ironic that sandwiched between the release of Dead Rising and Mad World rests little old Sonic. Let’s hope the character we grew up with can still hold his own. Enjoy the two latest trailers for Sonic & The Black Knight, due to be released March 3, below courtesy of IGN.

Sonic & The Black Knight Trailer!!

Posted under Wii Game Releases

So, our friends over at Wii Blog are quite excited about the latest Sonic game, even after the disaster that was Secret Rings. Looking at the latest trailer I can see why. This isn’t your typical Sonic game, The Black Knight looks to be a full on action/adventure title, complete with sword wielding Sonic! You’ll be sent back to an Arthurian inspired medieval world to battle it out with, well, The Black Knight. The game is developed by Team Sonic Japan and is set for a March 10 release date. Let’s hope this game actually plays as fun as the trailer makes it seem.
