Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues Nintendo Wii Impressions

Lego Indy’s back, and this time, he’s entering the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The original Lego Indiana Jones was a smash hit, and with the arrival of the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull last year, there’s suddenly more material for a sequel. That’s the thinking behind Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues, which will also include material from the original film trilogy that didn’t feature in the first game.

We got to see reproductions of both new and old films in our GamesCom demo today, both with the diner section from The Crystal Skull and the opening of the ark from Raiders of the Lost Ark. The latter cutscene was particularly memorable, as the Nazis were compelled to perform funky dance moves before disintegrating into thin air. In-game, Indy can now do more with his whip, such as tie enemies up and drag them around, as we saw in the diner fight scene.

Lego Indy 2 also has plenty of upgrades that will please fans of the Lego series. When two players drift apart, the screen now automatically splits in two, letting players do what they want before joining seamlessly together once they’re close to each other. There’s also a new level builder that allows you to put down boards and pieces just like you might have done with real Legos as a child. However, with this being a children’s title, you probably won’t be able to share these creations online, although LucasArts is currently looking into this possibility. At least you and a friend can both work on your design at the same time.

The hubs in Lego Indy 2 have also been expanded and improved, with three hubs from the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and three from the original trilogy. The hubs are themed around different areas in the films, and you can fly around in a plane, parachute out, and then jump into levels straight from these hubs.

Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues is looking almost finished, which is a good sign given how close we are to release. The game will be released on all major platforms in the third quarter of 2009.

Metroid Prime Trilogy Nintendo Wii Release Date

The Nintendo website has been updated with information regarding the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Talks of the trilogy coming to the Wii have been around for some time now. Nintendo released some information to pique our interest, so check out information about the game below.

Game Overview:

Metroid™ Prime 3: Corruption set a new standard for first-person motion controls in video games. Now it’s bringing those controls to the rest of the celebrated series, allowing players to experience the entire Metroid Prime story arc with the peerless precision of the Wii Remote. Nintendo announces Metroid Prime Trilogy, a new premium three-game collection for the Wii console that bundles all three landmark Metroid Prime games onto one disc and revamps the first two installments with intuitive Wii Remote controls, wide-screen presentation and other enhancements. Metroid Prime Trilogy will be available exclusively for Wii on Aug. 24 at a suggested retail price of $49.99.

Each game maintains its original storyline and settings, but now Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes let players use their Wii Remote to aim with precision as heroine Samus Aran. Based on the breakthrough control system that debuted in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, these new Wii controls bring an entirely new level of immersion and freedom to these milestone games.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box Nintendo DS Hands-On

Critical thinking is the key to success!

Developer Level-5′s trilogy of charming puzzle adventures is finally making its way to North America. The first Professor Layton game was a delightful adventure starring the professor and his sidekick, Luke, who traveled to the mysterious village of St. Mystere to find the Golden Apple. The second game, Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, seems to follow the same successful formula, with a blend of logic puzzles and a fascinating story.

The story begins with Professor Layton and Luke boarding the luxurious Molentary Express. Professor Layton had received a letter earlier from his mentor, which talked about a mysterious box that kills all those who open it. From what we played of the demo, it’s very much like the previous game in which you explore the locations that you’re in and find puzzles to solve. You’ll interact with other characters and learn more about this diabolical box, referred to as the Elysian box. Since the professor is all about solving mysteries, their journey will no doubt include a variety of clever puzzles to tackle.

While Nintendo fans are looking to the company’s press briefing at next month’s Electronic Entertainment Expo with hopes of new game announcements, the Wii maker today padded its release list by one more game. Or three, depending on how one looks at it.

There’s just more of her to love.

Nintendo today announced Metroid Prime Trilogy for release on the Wii in North America. The compilation will include 2007′s current-generation debut of the space-faring adventure franchise–Metroid Prime 3: Corruption–as well as revamps of the series’ two GameCube installments on a single disc. Indiana Jones & The Staff of Kings Wii Video Trailers

I absolutely love Indiana Jones. I’ve seen the trilogy a million times. Well, close to it anyway.  I mean, who could you not completely idolize the whip toting, hat wearing, snake hating archaeologist? The man is a legend. Then came Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I mean yes, there was a bit of the paranormal in the trilogy, but Kingdom of the Crystal Skull took it a bit too far. Let’s just say it wasn’t classic Indy. Luckily for us LucasArts is looking to make things right with Indiana Jones and The Staff of Kings. The only thing missing is Harrison Ford’s voice. Yes, that’s a huge bummer for Indy fans such as myself. But, the rest is vintage Indy through and through. The game is set a year after The Last Crusade, or pre-Crystal Skull if you will. The menu is even setup to be an interactive version Dr. Jones’ office. All I can say is that this game looks like it’s going to be awesome. The trailers I have below are awesome as well… Enjoy!
